چکیده

Received 14 March 2003; in final form 21 April 2003 Abstract A new technique of synthesizing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) from a thin film of SBA-16 type mesoporous silica (MPS) on a Si substrate was developed. The alcohol catalytic CVD method was employed for the low temperature synthesis of SWNTs to minimize the sintering of catalytic metals and damaging of the MPS structure. The role of MPS layer is discussed based on SEM and Raman analyses, in comparison with the reference experiments made using Si substrates coated with silica thin films. This technique suggests a possibility of synthesizing SWNTs at well-defined intervals utilizing the periodic structures of MPS.

Preparation of Catalytic Nanoparticles in Mesoporous Silica Film for Oriented Growth of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Vertically oriented single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) attract considerable attention, because it is expected as an ideal field emitter that can realize lower threshold voltage and higher electric current than microtips of Si or metals. In this study, we aim that SWNTs are vertically oriented using mesoporous silica film as a guide of the growth for SWNTs. For the orientation, the catalyst ...

Solution-processed single walled carbon nanotube electrodes for organic thin-film transistors

Airbrushed single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) thin films with sheet resistivity <1 kX/ sq. and transparency >80% are used as electrodes for pentacene and regioregular poly(3hexylthiophene) (P3HT) thin-film transistors (TFTs). Airbrushed SWCNT electrodes show low contact resistance in a bottom-contact configuration, comparable to (in the case of P3HT) or lower than (in the case of pentacene) ...

Generating suspended single-walled carbon nanotubes across a large surface area via patterning self-assembled catalyst-containing block copolymer thin films.

Using self-assembled block copolymers as templates, catalytically active nanostructures with controlled size and space have been produced. A self-assembled polystyrene-b-polyferrocenylsilane thin film and monolayer of surface micelles of cobalt-complexed polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) are fully compatible with novolac-based conventional photoresists. Combining bottom-up self-assembly of ca...

Vertically Aligned Carpet of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes Catalytically Grown from Alcohol

Recent developments of catalytic CVD generation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by using alcohol as the carbon source are discussed. High-purity SWNTs can be generated at relatively low CVD temperatures from metal catalytic particles supported on zeolite [1, 2] (Fig. 1) or directly dispersed on flat substrates such as meso-porous silica [3], quartz and silicon [4, 5, 6]. Fig. 1 (a) is...

Characterization of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube and Graphene-Based Field-Effect Transistors

We describe a transparent and flexible field-effect transistor (FET) made from graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) hybrid system. Graphene and vertically aligned SWNTs simultaneously grown by alcohol catalytic chemical vapor deposition (ACCVD) were employed as channel and source-drain electrode, respectively. Gate electrode was also made of SWNTs separated with a thin poly(vinyl ...
